Good story and a reminder of how bad the calls were in Southern California. My daughter began lessons at nine and tournaments at ten. It was treacherous out there without an umpire unless you called for one. So many little cheating girls, and not just a little cheating, but the set scores were purposely reversed. It was difficult, if not impossible, for a ten year old to walk ten or fifteen tennis courts away to get help.
She finished 10 in her age division and went on to play Division I at a large university. Sadly, after graduation, she hasn’t picked up a racquet more than a dozen times. Maybe someday…
