I don’t ever remember just smiling and saying “Why, I’d love to go to the movies with you on Saturday night! Thanks so much for asking!” No, it wasn’t like that. It was more like “Well, I’m not sure. I’ll have to check and let you know.” And then I might wait until after Wednesday to see if someone I was more interested in asked me out. Of course that was back in the day when girls never did the asking. We waited. And we waited. And after a date we’d wait again hoping for a call. And if the phone didn’t ring before Wednesday, we knew not to expect it to come later because Tuesday was for Friday and Wednesday was for Saturday.

Back then, I never liked the nice guys that were interested in me. I liked to do the chasing (discreetly), and unfortunately only fell for the “bad boys.”

Dating again in 2002 was totally different. But of course, it was through dating sites.
