Georgia stood in the oversized utility sink as the spray of water rinsed away the second glorious cloud of soapy suds. “Rinse, repeat,” Dylan had said. If he could hear her heart right now, he would hear Georgia saying, “Clean! Warm! Clean clean clean!”

The first thing he had done was feed her. After she ate her fill, Dylan lifted her into the sink. First, he rinsed her thoroughly, which she usually hated, but this time it was wonderful. The water was very warm, and when it poured down her head and her back and plume, it felt like hugs and kisses. She stood, not wanting to move a muscle, and watched as the water that ran from her hair to the drain slowly turned from black to gray to clear. Then Dylan covered her with shampoo that smelled like oatmeal, massaging it into every inch of her hair and skin, and then he rinsed the suds down the drain. Georgia had a groomer who gave her a bath every four weeks, but her groomer only shampooed her…
