Oh, don’t get me wrong, giving birth can be extremely painful. The biggest difference is that when a woman gives birth, she is looking forward to the most precious gift imaginable, so that pleasure lessens the pain. When that same woman is experiencing the pain of kidney stones, there’s nothing to look forward to except passing the stone.

At least for me, I know that something hurts much more when I think it is serious (cancer, for instance). If I know I just broke a bone in my hand, I can live with the pain.

By the way, I have a very high tolerance for pain. I have had surgeries where someone else would be under general anesthesia, and I take a tylenol. When you get older, Heath, you can look forward to having a colonoscopy. Everyone goes under. I was wide awake. Let me know how that feels someday ;)

One last thing: my doctor told me that kidney stone pain is one of the worst in all of medicine. Here’s to drinking more water!
