There is only one explanation for the “doorknob disclosure,” and it has nothing to do with the patient wanting the therapist to suffer and disturb a therapist’s weekend or anything other than avoidance and fear. The patient wants whatever he discloses off his chest, out of his head, but he is terrified to expose himself, so he waits until the very last minute.
