We had a lawyer/friend write an intent to sue letter to the hospital. We “settled” out of court at which time they gave us a zero balance and wanted us to sign a waiver that they would be exempt from any future suits. We signed but put a clause in it for HIV/AIDS.

No, there weren’t nearly as many claims for damages back then, but my father and husband were both lawyers, and I’ve never been one to just let things go.
