Wow!!! You are just as amazing as I thought you would be when I began reading your poems a little while ago!
And we have a few things in common:
My father went to NYU undergrad and law school.
His mother’s name was Bessie.
He was a fan of Freud, not Reich, but his name was Bernard Reich (his brother was Joe).
He was brilliant. My mother wasn’t very bright, but she was a character and a character actress on off Broadway.
My father was an avid reader and writer.
Everyone in our house knew all the words to all the show tunes and performed around the house.
My parents were dysfunctional. My father yelled every day. I was in Freudian psychoanalysis for almost three years.
I didn’t do well in school; I hated school.
I graduated from college anyway. I majored in sociology and minored in theater.
What we don’t have in common:
My NYU educated father didn’t leave Manhattan to become a farmer. He moved to Beverly Hills to become a prominent attorney, and you can imagine the rest.
